Volunteer for a Cause That Matters: You Can Help Transform Cancer Care in Gloucestershire!

Lions at Large is the biggest event that Cheltenham and Gloucester Hospitals Charity has ever run and we need support for it to be the biggest success it can be.

Are you looking for a way to make a meaningful impact in your community? Volunteering for Cheltenham and Gloucester Hospitals Charity is a powerful way to help us reach our goal for the Big Space Cancer Appeal. By donating your time and skills, you’ll become an essential part of enabling us to raise the funds to transform Cancer Care in Gloucestershire.

There are lots of ways in which you can help us with the Lions at Large Trail and every act of kindness counts. We appreciate that your time is one of the biggest gifts you can give and there are a number ways you can get involved, see roles below.

Volunteering not only benefits those you serve, but it can also enrich your own life. It offers an opportunity to learn new skills, meet like-minded individuals, and experience the joy of giving back. Plus, it’s a great way to strengthen bonds within your community and make lasting memories!

If you would like to register your interest, please complete our Volunteer Form or contact us on:

Volunteer Opportunities

Lions at Large Pop-up shop, Cheltenham

11th July -16th September (Wednesday -Sunday, 10am-4pm)

As a volunteer in our merchandising shop in Cheltenham, you will engage with the public participating in the trail. From answering questions about the trail to selling our Lions at Large merchandise, you will help the public maximise their enjoyment of this free, family-friendly event over the summer while aiding the charity in raising vital funds and awareness. Training will be provided.

The shop location is to be confirmed. The ideal candidates are those who can commit to a regular day or hours; however, we would greatly appreciate any support we can receive.

Lion Keeper – Cheltenham and Gloucester

11th July – 16th September (daily)

Adopt one of the large lions and be their keeper during the trail period. Keep them looking perfect with a special lion keeper pack and inform the team if you have any concerns. Ideally, each lion should be checked daily to ensure they remain in the best shape for the public to enjoy over the entire 9 week trail.

Our Lions will be placed in central locations in Gloucester and Cheltenham. This role is perfect if you live or work close to the town/city centre and are naturally passing by each day.

Cleaning Crew – Cheltenham and Gloucester

11th July – 16th September (times and dates flexible)

Help keep the lions looking pristine by joining our cleaning crew – you’ll receive everything you need to ensure our sculptures remain the pride of place throughout the summer.

This is an ideal team activity … stroll along the trail, take in the scenery, guide visitors in the right direction, and serve as that week’s cleaning crew, which will involve giving the lions and signage a soapy wash and dry as you go.

Lions at Large Farewell Event

3rd to 5th October – Cheltenham Race Course (10am – 4pm)

The farewell event will unite both large and small lions in one location, marking the final opportunity for the public to see them before they go to auction and their forever homes.  This is a ticketed event, and we anticipate hundreds, if not thousands, of visitors over the weekend. We are seeking volunteers who can assist with marshalling, car parking, and selling merchandise.
