A Landmark Partnership: Gloucester Cathedral sponsors Lions at Large!

Date published: 7 December 2024

We are thrilled to announce Gloucester Cathedral as the latest sponsor for The Pride of Gloucestershire Trail.

Lions at Large will be roaring onto the streets of Cheltenham and Gloucester next Summer. With over 30 large Lion sculptures designed and painted by local artists – streets, parks and open spaces will dazzle with their vibrant colours and surprising designs. The trail will celebrate Gloucestershire’s rich heritage, culture and diversity; helping to bring together the whole community to explore and feel pride in their local area.

Gloucester Cathedral stands as one of Britain’s greatest buildings, shaped by over 1,300 years of Christian faith and history. Its cloisters and iconic fan vaulting have gained global fame, notably appearing in the Harry Potter films. Visitors are invited to explore the tower and crypt on guided tours and participate in a varied programme of community events. Open daily for worship and visiting, Gloucester Cathedral warmly welcomes everyone.

Very Reverend Andrew Zihni, Dean of Gloucester, said

“We are delighted to participate in next summer’s Pride of Gloucestershire Trail, a celebration of all our county has to offer, and a chance to support the vital work of Cheltenham and Gloucester Hospitals Charity. As a place where everyone is always welcome, we are proud to embrace this opportunity to bring our community together. We hope this trail inspires people across Gloucestershire to come together, explore and take pride in our remarkable county!”

Carrie Smith, Project Manager at Cheltenham and Gloucester Hospitals Charity, said:
